Don’t Leave

This project was inspired by my feelings of deep appreciation for nature, and the sadness I feel when faced with the ephemeral qualities of the world. Animals, plants, and even beaches change with the passing of time, but are hastened toward a quickening, cancerous end by the hand of humankind’s abuse.

“Don’t Leave” was the final concert for the completion of my MFA in electronic music and recording media. It was the culmination of 2 years as a fellow in the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College in Oakland, California. The live acoustic performance featured Zeena Parkins on harp and Van Jackson-Weaver on guitar.

Program Notes (March 7, 2019):

Lately, I’ve been mourning the precious things that have been and will be lost in this new wave of xenophobia.

But I believe music can act as a bridge between people.

I have hope for us on this beautiful planet — that, given a chance, most of us will choose love over fear, compassion over destruction.

This performance is dedicated to ocean life and habitats that will be lost in coming years due to global warming and rising sea levels.
